"The Will of God"
An inspiring presentation by Rev. Timothy Casey, based on the spiritually ground-breaking book by Rev. Leslie D. Weatherhead
This event is open to men of our wider Naperville community: friends, co-workers and neighbors, as well as men from our Aurora District and from the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church.
We welcome all men, young and old!
Keynote Speaker: Rev. Timothy Casey
As a child growing up in rural south-central Wisconsin, Timothy Casey had a less than stable home life. His mother was married four times. However, he learned the value of hard work and always desired the stability of lasting relationships. At 15, he became a Christian; shortly after, he realized his call to pastoral ministry. Rev. Casey studied Religion at Olivet Nazarene, receiving a B.A. in 1986. Two years later, he received an M.A. In 1990, he was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene, and in 1992, he attended Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston. He has served United Methodist congregations in Nebraska, Plainfield, and Bartlett, IL (his current pastoral post). After suffering an auto accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down and postponed his hope of becoming a full member of the UMC's Northern Illinois Conference in 1998, Rev. Casey became a member in 2001, when the Conference recognized his ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Casey and his wife, Becky, have been married for 24 years. They have three children. His family is his greatest joy. "God has blessed us beyond measure...and seen us through the crisis of my disability."
READERS' PRAISE FOR THE WILL OF GOD
"The Will of God remains relevant today for anyone interested in a God that is more than an oversimplified, superstitious way to avoid the pain associated with the hard realities of life. ?These are days full of loss and pain, of suffering and sorrow. But they are not days of waste,' the Rev. Leslie Weatherhead tells us."
"Of all the many Christian books that I have read, none have had the impact that came with reading this one particular book. It alone is the book that I have most given away to others to read. Weatherhead lays out in a very easy and non-heavy-handed way the question of What is God's Will?"
EXCERPT FROM THE WILL OF GOD
"The phrase 'the will of God' is used so loosely, and the consequence of that looseness to our peace of mind is so serious, that I want to spend some time in thinking through with you the whole subject. There is nothing about which we ought to think more clearly; and yet, I sometimes think, there is nothing about which men and women are more confused."
