Rev. Carol Madalin, Minister of Spiritual Development and Growth
Carol came to the Chicago area from a suburb of Detroit where she was born. She grew up in Franklin Community Church, a Methodist Church, in Franklin, Michigan. Carol earned a Bachelors and Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan and has been a professional operatic and concert singer most of her adult life. She came to Chicago to sing with the Lyric Opera as an apprentice in the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists. In addition to performing, Carol has taught Kindermusik, a program for young children, and directed the Adult and Children's Choirs at Northbrook UMC for the past five years.
While at Northbrook UMC, Carol had surgery to remove a nodule on her thyroid. The subsequent treatment left her unable to sing for nearly a year and a half. During that recovery, Carol experienced the grace of God working in her life and considered going to Seminary for "a class." During this time at Garrett Evangelical-Theological Seminary, Carol discovered a passion and calling for pastoral care and counseling. She graduated in May 2002 with a Master of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling. In June of 2008, Carol was ordained to the Honor of Deacon in Full Connection in the Northern Illinois Conference.
Carol is married to Mike Doll and they have three daughters.
