Sisters Daytime Class

Do you know the real story behind the New Testament? We all share a fascination for discovering "the rest of the story." We enjoy learning the behind-the-scenes facts about seemingly familiar events.

In this eight-session video Bible study, well-known Bible scholars N.T. Wright and Michael F. Bird team up to take you on a tour of the story behind the explosive story of the New Testament. You will discover things you never knew about Jesus’ baptism and journey into the wilderness, the meaning behind his parables and miracles, the significance of his death and resurrection, the incredible expansion of the early church into the Greco-Roman world, and how the transforming mission of Jesus can still turn the world upside down today.

Through reading the New Testament we continually discover that God indeed keeps his promises, but those promises don’t always look like what people expected. Especially when it comes to Jesus. So, come join the journey on Monday, September 9, at 1 p.m. in room 254, with N.T. Wright and Michael Bird and they will help you understand the New Testament you never knew. Contact Pastor Cindy (cindy.marino@peopleogreace.org) for more information.

This 12-week study will immerse you in the books of Genesis and Exodus through which you will deepen your understanding of Scripture and make connections between what you already know and what you are reading. In every session, we will commit to how we can respond to Scripture in terms of ministry in our world today. Contact Sandy Bray (braysnap@aol.com) for more information and to sign up.

New! Dietrich Bonhoeffer Study

What is a true Christian faith community? How is Jesus present among those who profess their faith together and celebrate oneness with the Lord?  Join us for a study of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s marvelous book Life Together in which he deals with the nature of the Christ-centered community, united in service to one another, united in prayer and confession and in the Lord’s Supper.

The seven-week study will begin on Tuesdays, September 17, at 7 p.m. in room 254. On Tuesday evening, October 8, true to Bonhoeffer’s call, we will volunteer in Grace Church's serving meal ministry at Hesed House, Aurora. The 2015 edition of Life Together (Fortress Press) can be ordered from Anderson's Book Store in Naperville or your other book order sources. Students are encouraged to read the short book in advance. New! Sisters Evening Class!

Join us on Wednesday, September 25, at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Our Fall study will be Not a Silent Night by Adam Hamilton. This 5-week course will look at Jesus from Mary’s point of view --proud of her son, in awe of his gifts and mission, guided by love for him as a person and so much more. In this study, we will begin at the Crucifixion and Resurrection then travel back in time as Mary witnessed Jesus’ life and ministry and ends at the beginning with the Christ Child. Come experience an early Advent and Christmas with Mary. Contact Sandy Bray (braysnap@aol.com) for more information and to sign up.
