"Fast From Fear, Feast on Love"
By Nadia Kanhai
A Lenten Reflection from Northern Illinois Justice for Our Neighbors (NJFON)
Nadia has been a volunteer with Northern Illinois Justice For Our Neighbors almost since the first JFON clinic opened six years ago. She’s done intake interviews, case coordination, and managed the volunteer database. What most strikes Nadia are the very human stories of the people she meets. “I wish everyone could meet these people. Then they would know that they aren’t scary immigrants, but real people, some of whom have faced horrible things.”
Nadia goes on to say, “I like that my work at JFON is connected to my faith." Nadia is an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville, Illinois. "JFON is helping me understand and talk about the role of justice in my faith.”
Volunteers with NIJFON share their leadership and faith-development skills with all they meet. Local clinics allow volunteers to be a part of team that changes lives and moves clients into leadership roles. Supporting Northern Illinois Justice For Our Neighbors gives a forum for church leaders to share their voices for lasting change.
