How to Supercharge Your Fall!
By Rev. Cindy Marino
The church is all about relationship. It really is that simple!
We, at Grace UMC, are discovering that regardless of who we are or what we believe, we need one another. God created us for relationship with God and others. The African concept, Ubuntu, made famous by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, says it best, "A person is a person through other people.” Our communion liturgy takes it a step further: “We are one in Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world.”
Throughout this coming year, you will see the ‘relationship’ image (shown here) used in various ways. The three overlapping circles emphasize the space where we overlap: one person with another, the church with the world, and Christ in us. This overlapping space is where we grow both inwardly and outwardly, where we love most deeply, where we become our best selves in sharing with others. We don’t lose our individuality, but God unites us to love a hurting world.
So, explore relationship this year at Grace!
We begin with Rally Day on Sunday, September 9, when we commission our choirs, bless our children, and kick off our season with a sermon series called, “Unafraid.” Classes accompany the series as listed in the Fall Class Schedule mailed in August. Engaging in a class is the perfect way to meet others and grow in your understanding of faith.
We top off the month on Sunday, September 30, with our first ever Grace Tailgate Party. This is also part of our first “Friends and Family” Sunday when we encourage you to invite others to worship. Following worship, you can relax with your friends, family and great food in the lower parking lot! You’ll also be able to explore information about the ministries of Grace and opportunities to find a place to belong. There may even be a game on the big screen!
October brings even more new and exciting opportunities! Don’t miss Pastor Daniel’s article about Children’s Sabbath and our Faith in Action!
Grace UMC is erupting with hope and possibilities for 2018 and beyond. We are not complete without you!
