National Handbell Seminar!

By Henry

On July 19 through July 21, a few others and I from the Grace Youth Bell Ensemble were fortunate enough to attend this year’s Distinctly Teen national seminar in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At this event, we learned many new and intriguing things about handbells such as back-ringing, the traditional style of ringing, and the singing bell, one of my favorite new articulations. We also were taught some very interesting facts about handbells; for example, they tune the bells to two different pitches to make chords sound fuller. One of the biggest surprises of the journey was a composer, Mr. Glasgow (pictured to the left), doing a comedy show about the life of a handbell musician. The trip was a great learning experience for us, and we had lots of fun along the way. Thanks to all the donors who made this amazing trip possible.
