Prayers Answered!

As we approached the site this morning, a cheer went up in the car as we saw that the color of the dumpster was changed.

With rain imminent, we got to work quickly packing the 2nd dumpster with shingles, insulation, roofing boards charred on the one side, carpet, electric wiring, toilet, sink, drywall, and wire meshed back ceramic tiles (extremely heavy and difficult to demolish). Trip after trip after trip were taken to the dumpster by the workers using a wheelbarrow or a heavy duty garbage can.

Day 3 saw lots of first-timers, youth and adults, who ventured up to the roof to rip off shingles. Youth and adults have been working side by side to accomplish as much as we can. We have a team of hard workers and must remind each other to take breaks and drink water.

After all that grueling work, the kids were still up for our annual round-robin kickball tournament. One highlight from the tournament was watching John S. climb a tree to shake a branch to dislodge one of the balls kicked into it.

Following that it was well deserved showers and a rainy walk to the Birmingham Barons, a 1A farm team for the Chicago White Sox, baseball game with a catered buffet supper. Thankfully the rain stopped before we got to the park.
