Side X Side 2018

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13

Through the generosity of our Grace UMC family, individual tuitions, and successful fundraising efforts, June 9-17 proved to be an UNSTOPPABLE opportunity for our Side x Side team.

God prepared the work in advance and called our team to travel to be His hands and feet. In red shirts, 13 minivans, and one cargo truck, our team pulled into Birmingham, AL to serve with Habitat for Humanity and Christian Service Mission.

Much to our joy, we were partnered with some of the most kind-hearted, God-loving people who had been waiting for their homes to be repaired for months, and even years. Through the strength of Christ, we completed three new roofs, built a new deck, scraped and re-painted a home’s exterior and deck, hauled brush for a veteran, cleaned a flooded basement of a charitable organization’s volunteer dormitory, and shared the gospel with children at a day camp.  Every day was amazing!

In addition to the work, we had morning devotions, spent time in prayer, shared in small groups, played silly games, worshiped, and enjoyed meals together.
Side x Side is often referred to as the “one week out of the summer that our youth travel on a mission trip.”  If you ask a Side x Side-r, he or she will tell you that Side x Side is more of an experience and a feeling; many will tell you it has a lifelong impact.

Our team is incredibly grateful to our church family for making our time away possible.  It truly takes a village. A heartfelt thank you to: our custodial staff, our receptionists, prayer shawl ministry, Grace Office staff, UMW (for fundraising on our behalf), our shareholders, our prayer partners, the Youth Summer Missions planning team, and all who supported a fundraiser, prayed, came to the slideshow, or supported our week in any way.

All who have completed 8th grade are welcome to join our Side x Side team each year; yes, adults too! Start planning now to come with us in 2019!
