Pastor to the Community
Matthew joined the Grace staff in July of 2014. He is leading Grace's efforts to build relationships with those outside of a faith community and engage people with love and grace where they are. Consequently, you are just as likely to see him on Facebook or Twitter as you are to find him in his office. He's in your neighborhood coffee shops and bars sharing the Gospel more often than he's in the sanctuary preaching it. From his initial interest in political action to his work as a community journalist and a not-for-profit leader, Matthew has always sought to do the work of Jesus: pointing to a greater truth, building meaningful relationships, acting in mercy, and advocating for justice. During his more than 10 years of working for congregations, he has served churches large and small in urban, rural, and suburban contexts.
Matthew recently celebrated 17 years of marriage with his partner, Emily. Together, they have a precocious 7-year-old daughter, Liberty. For fun, Matthew enjoys riding around on two wheels, tweaking the controls on circuit-bent instruments, getting loud on his extensive collection of electric guitars, reading great books, and watching beautiful films.
