My name is Melissa Siomos. I have been a member of the Grace community my entire life. Growing up watching my family serve God and our church has given me the foundation for building a life of faith and community support. In the summer of 2020, after watching families in my community struggle with all the stresses the Covid shut down brought on, I wanted to do something to spread joy but also help families in need. I began collecting Halloween costumes to be regifted to families in need.
In 2020, I collected over 100 costumes and gifted almost as many. In 2021, I collected even more costumes and gifted just over 100 costumes. That momentum continued in 2022. This year, I collected HUNDREDS of costumes and after partnering with the church for a space to hold the Costume Closet, I estimated I was able to gift close to 200 costumes (and I’m still gifting costumes out of my garage on an appointment only basis).
I would love to spread the word about this opportunity to my church family. Whether you could benefit from a free costume, have a costume to give, or know someone who could benefit from giving or receiving costumes, I would love to hear from you!
I was blessed to be able to participate as a trunk in the Trunk or Treat event on October 18, and I was truly touched by seeing how many costumes we had gifted to the children participating. It warmed my heart and showed me that every little effort makes a difference. I left the Trunk or Treat event with an overflowing cup and a renewed confidence the Costume Drive and Costume Closet giveaway must continue. I am grateful for my church family that has taught me to “meet others where they are” and give gracefully and without expectation. To accomplish this goal, I could use your help and I would greatly appreciate any costume donations you may no longer have a need for. If you have any questions, please contact me at mkloog@gmail.com or Pastor Kim at kim.neace@peopleofgrace.org.

I really appreciate initiatives like this that focus on reuse and giving clothing a second life, especially when it helps families in the community. It’s a good reminder that even everyday fashion items like leather jackets can have lasting value when they are cared for and passed on instead of being wasted. Brands like Marco Enzolani also reflect that idea of creating menswear that is durable and meant to be worn for years rather than quickly replaced. Really meaningful effort, great to see community impact like this.
