We are introducing our brand new logo for Grace United Methodist Church. Months of work and hours of discussion amongst the leadership of the church went into creating this new logo. But you may be wondering why? The purpose of having a logo is to be instantly recognizable and, if possible, to communicate the church’s values. Logo refreshes demonstrate that a church is growing and adjusting to the changes taking place in the modern world, remaining relevant. We don't want to seem like we are stale and unwilling to change.
So, what does our new logo seek to communicate? The first thing you’ll notice is the color. We chose blue, which, according to color theory, is a color that communicates trust, professionalism, and reliability. It conveys a sense of calm, spiritual awareness, and healing. It also is the color of water, representing the Holy Spirit, and references Grace’s location as a church bordering a river. Blue is the color you see when entering the building, connecting the logo to the space for a consistent message.
As for the logo itself, you’ll see that our primary icon is a “G” made of three distinct parts. The three parts that make up the “G” are symbolic of several things. The first is our Trinitarian faith in one God who is three persons. The three parts also fit well with our tagline of “Gather, Grow, and Go.” The swooping style makes the logo appear to have movement, as in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit always loving, moving, and sacrificing together. It symbolizes our faith journey in gathering, growing, and going.
It also communicates that Grace is a church in action; always adapting to the needs of an ever-changing world. The movement is balanced by the bold typeface which indicates the solid foundation Grace has established over the years.
